The Honourable Lady Barbara Judge
Chairman

The Honourable Lady Judge is Chairman of Hyperion Power. She has held senior executive and advisory appointments in law, finance, industry, public service, the arts, and academic life in the U.K., U.S., and Asia.

After gaining academic honors in law in the United States, she specialized in corporate and financial transactions as a partner in a major U.S. law firm. In 1980 Lady Judge was appointed by the President as the youngest-ever Commissioner of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Lady Judge moved to Hong Kong in 1983 as the first woman main board executive director of a London merchant bank, Samuel Montagu & Co. She then held a series of senior positions in banking in the U.S. and U.K.

Lady Judge was recently appointed Chairman of the U.K. Pension Protection Fund. Prior to that she served as Chairman of the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority from 2004 to 2010, overseeing the development and sale of its commercial arm, UKAEA Ltd, part of a major restructuring of the U.K. nuclear industry. During this time she also served on the Board of Directors for the U.K. Government’s Energy Group and was a non-executive director of the then Department for Constitutional Affairs.  From 2004 to 2007 she was Deputy Chairman of the Financial Reporting Council, the U.K. regulatory authority for accounting and corporate governance, and from 2007 to 2009 she was a public member of the International Ethics Standards Board for Accountants.

In June 2010 she was awarded Commander of the Order of the British Empire at the Queen’s Birthday Honours for services to the nuclear and financial services industries.

Robert E. (Bob) Prince
CEO

Robert Prince is CEO of Hyperion Power Generation. Bob has over 40 years in the nuclear industry and is a former CEO of Duratek, Inc. (NASDAQ: DRTK), a leading radioactive waste transportation, treatment and disposition firm. Under his leadership at Duratek, the company grew from $7 to $300M in revenue when it was acquired in 2006 by EnergySolutions, Inc. Bob drove the commercialization of several technologies to better handle radioactive materials including a vitrification technology developed at The Catholic University of America that has been embraced by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). This technology is now being installed at DOE’s Hanford site and was implemented into the DOE’s Savannah River Site Defense Waste Processing Facility.

Before Duratek, Bob was the founder and CEO of General Technical Services (GTS), a wholly-owned subsidiary of General Physics Corporation, whose business was to provide support services to the nuclear power industry. GTS was acquired by Duratek in 1990. Prior to GTS, he was an engineer with Gilbert/Commonwealth where he spent 9 years on a wide range of nuclear power projects in Europe, Latin America, Mexico and the USA.

In addition to his BS in Engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy, Bob is a graduate of the U.S. Navy Nuclear Power School, a Certified Naval Nuclear Engineer, and holds an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Finance. In 2004, he was conferred an honorary PhD in Commercial Science from The Catholic University of America for his pioneering initiatives in commercializing radioactive waste vitrification technologies.

Bob is a former Board of Directors member of the Nuclear Energy Institute, and currently serves on the Board of Directors of Aqua-Chem, Thermafiber, MHF Services, and Kurion (a technology startup serving the nuclear industry).

Dirk McDermott
Managing Partner, Altira Group LLC

Dirk McDermott is the founder of Altira Group LLC, a Denver-based venture capital firm with a focus on energy investing. Mr. McDermott has over 25 years as an investor, manager and scientist in the energy industry. His experience includes operating in the upstream oil and gas sector as the Chief Geophysicist of a major independent producer and serving as the lead institutional investor and Director of Canyon Offshore. In addition to Rignet, Mr. McDermott serves on the Board of Directors for three Altira portfolio companies: Hyperion Power, MicroSeismic and Novinda. Mr. McDermott is a past Director of Research Partnership for a Secure Energy America (RPSEA) and serves on the Petroleum Investment Committee at Stanford University. He has an MBA and a Master of Science in Geophysics from Stanford University.

David Carlson

Chief Nuclear Officer

Dave Carlson is the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Nuclear Officer of Hyperion Power Generation.  He has 30 years of nuclear experience.  Dave was recently the COO of Aqua-Chem, a privately held manufacturer of water purification and desalination equipment with worldwide sales.  Prior to Aqua-Chem he was a senior executive of Duratek, a publicly traded company, where he headed M&A activities and served as COO of the Commercial Business Segment. He also spent over 10 years in senior management roles, at Duratek’s predecessor companies, including Director at Idaho National Laboratory.

Dave started his career in the U.S. Navy nuclear program where he served on nuclear submarines, in shipyards, and in the Pentagon.  He retired from the Navy Reserve as a Captain.

Dave has a BS in Engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy, and a Masters in Engineering Management from the Catholic University of America.

Willis Bixby, PhD
Senior Advisor, Government Relations & Policy

Willis Bixby has over 35 years of nuclear experience in the private and public sectors including 11 years of commercial corporate and project leadership in government affairs, strategic planning,corporate acquisitions, due diligence assessments, safety, quality assurance, regulatory and environmental compliance with Duratek, Inc. and SCIENTECH. His 24 years of government service included identifying, managing and solving policy and project problems in the Department of Energy (DOE) and Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC).

Prior to his commercial leadership positions, Dr. Bixby retired from the Federal government having spent 20 years with the Department of Energy and 4 years with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission in positions of increasing management responsibility. He served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary (DAS) of Energy for Site Operations and the DAS for the Office of Facility Transition and Management, which he established under the Assistant Secretary for Environmental Management. Prior to that, Dr. Bixby served as a Deputy Manager of the Department’s Richland Operations Office and was responsible for the environmental cleanup for the 890 square mile site in Hanford, Washington. He also served as the Federal Project Manager for the cleanup of the only commercial U.S. reprocessing plant in West Valley, New York including the design, development and testing of systems resulting in the vitrifcation of 600,000 gallons of high level waste. Before that assignment, he established and managed the DOE’s Office at Three Mile Island Unit 2 and was responsible for the implementation of the DOE’s activities in support of the cleanup following the nation’s only commercial reactor accident. Today Dr. Bixby serves on the Senior Technical Advisory Committee to the DOE team revising DOE Order 435.1. In addition, he serves on a 3 member Independent Technical Review Team supporting the DOE West Valley Project Office.
