Yet another potential application for Hyperion can be found within the U.S. armed forces. The obvious appeal is the ability to quickly import SMRs to provide power for more temporary operations, such as in Iraq, and then take the reactor to the next site, when the work at the original location is completed.
However, HPMs can also play an essential role in providing power for permanent bases in the U.S. and around the globe. It makes sense, for the security of the nation, that military bases be powered by a source independent of the local, often more fragile and vulnerable, public utility. HPMs can ensure that independence while providing electrical power with the bonus of clean emissions that don’t contribute to global warming. |
